Bolstered by a few extras from Friends of Lobethal Bushland Park and Charleston Conservation Park, nine (9) volunteers and ranger Jacob braved the wet and cold for the walk and weed session in the southern portion of the park, focused on finding any remaining Gorse plants and other weeds such as Fleabane and African Daisy.
While we did find some patches of African Daisy and Fleabane, only two (2) specimens each of Gorse and Blackberry were found and treated accordingly. Finding less than a handful of specimens of these highly invasive weeds is very encouraging and a great example of a collective effort, both pre and post the 2019 fire from DEW (Parks), dedicated environmental contractor in Kieran Brewer (SAIF), and supported over the years by volunteers of the URTLG (Scrubbers).
The session concluded with morning tea and coffee provided by Ellen from the boot of her car, as the steady rain set in.
Next activity is on Sunday, 23 August
