Thank you to those who could make it to our final activity for 2025 at Porter Scrub.

For the final activity of the year, we undertook our annual plant monitoring in the exclosure and sensitive hand weeding around the plants and stakes. We checked the rain gauge with 42.5 mm recorded in approx. a month. One of Liz’s maroonhoods remains! Outside of the exclosure we hand-weeded around the Amphibromus pithogastrus and guarded the surviving plants. Greg counted the surviving Coronidium gunnianum, and next we wandered up the hill to the Clover glycine planting area.  We were happy to see them going very well with some plants even putting on showy flowers. Adam took some great photos.

Overall, the threatened plant species, inside and outside the exclosure are doing very well. However, Viola species and Clover glycine are struggling the most in the exclosure, possibly due to the dry conditions and aspect of the selected planting site, but time will tell. We ended the session with shared nibbles and cold beverages and left before the steamy conditions set in.

Looking ahead to 2026, as proposed, things will run a little differently.

We only have 3 activities planned to reduce my capacity of availability.

MAY

In the month of May we will undertake a Walk & Weed Blitz in the southern section of the park. Session to be led by Ellen.

AUGUST

In the month of August we will undertake a bird monitoring and weeding session in the northern part of the park. Session to be led by Ellen.

OCTOBER

In the month of October we will undertake a weeding and plant monitoring session in the exclosure and along the creek. Session to be led by Greg.

It is envisaged that each session will run for 3-4 hours but you are welcome to leave earlier.

Times and dates to be confirmed closer.

It would be great to get a few extra volunteers to help out during these sessions, so if you know of anyone – spread the word.

I will continue to bring tea and coffee supplies and tools and equipment.

Thank you for your volunteering commitment this year.

All the best for the rest of the year.

Regards,

Ellen
